Chief Technology Officer

  • Role

    The CTO will own the development of best in class products and technology solutions for our clean-tech vision. They will build and lead the Engineering (Hardware and Software Integration) and R&D functions at the company. PowerUP's technology will help our primarily women customers cook faster, cheaper, and with less carbon emissions - giving them more control of their time, finances, and health.

    We are a new company so we will need your help getting started from scratch. In the first year, you will be challenged with the following: Build up the tech vision and strategy in line with the company's aspirations. Build an Engineering team that follows Lean Startup principles will be a top priority. Make key decisions such as build vs buy, insource vs outsources, selection and management of contract manufacturers and software providers. You will also work with the CEO to represent the company to the board of directors and the wider clean-tech industry.

    This member will also be part of the founding senior leadership team; responsible for crafting and executing the company vision and strategy.

  • Main Responsibilities

    1. Build and mentor a new collaborative technology team (mechanical, electric, firmware, software integration, etc...) to bring products from concept to mass production.

    2. Drive forward the R&D and technology vision, strategy, and thought leadership.

    3. Design and drive the product development process fitting of a new start-up.

    4. Be part of the co-founding team and senior leadership team.

    5. Manage co-development process with contract manufacturers and tech service providers to create a PAYGO enabled products.

    6. Lead the process of synthesizing complex sets of information to make technical decisions.

  • Skills / Experience

    • Minimum 8 years of relevant product development and managerial experience.

    • Extensive experience leading small to mid-size engineering teams with consumer electronics.

    • Advanced (executive level) communication skills to engage suppliers, investors, and public forums.

    • Strong engineering know-how bringing high volume consumer electronic products from concept to mass production.

    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and program management skills.

    • Start-up experience in low to middle income countries preferred.
